Kerry headed to Boston after breaking leg
Secretary of State John Kerry is heading back to the United States on Monday after breaking his leg in a bike crash in France over the weekend.
A tweet was sent from his account around noon on Monday.
Headed back to Boston. Look fwd to getting leg set & getting back to @StateDept! Meantime, work goes on. Big thanks for well-wishes. #Onward

Kerry suffered a broken femur that has yet to be reset, State Department spokesman John Kirby said on MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports” moments after the tweet.
“There hasn’t been any procedures performed on him since the break,” Kirby added.
{mosads}Kirby said in a statement early Sunday that Kerry was injured in a cycling accident in Scionzier, France, and “did not lose consciousness.”
Kerry, 71, who is often photographed riding a bike while on European trips, was transported via helicopter to a hospital in nearby Geneva, where he stayed overnight.
“He’s in very good spirits. Very eager, obviously, to get back, and get on with his recovery and continue with work,” Kirby said.
Kerry is expected to arrive at Massachusetts General Hospital on Monday evening. His surgeon, Dennis Burke, is accompanying him on the C-17 cargo plane back home, Kirby said on MSNBC.
After the bone is set, Kerry will likely undergo a physical therapy regimen administered by Burke, who previously performed a hip replacement surgery on Kerry.
“He’s gonna attack it just as aggressively as he attacks the job itself,” Kirby said of Kerry.
The spokesman downplayed any impact the injury could have on U.S. moves to secure an international accord with Iran over its nuclear program before a deadline at the end of the month.
Kerry met with his Iranian counterpart, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, on Saturday but was unable to stay for talks in Europe over the fight against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, due to the injury.
“The deadline remains set, June 30,” Kirby said Monday of the Iran talks, adding that Kerry was “laser-focused” on the negotiations.
Kerry has led the U.S. team of negotiators working with Britain, France, Germany, China and Russia to hammer out a deal with Iran. It’s unclear if leaders will meet their deadline, however.
“Nothing’s going to change about these Iran negotiations,” Kirby said.
