Westboro Baptist Church blames Hillary for church shooting
The Westboro Baptist Church is blaming Hillary Clinton for a mass shooting at a historic African-American church in Charleston, S.C.
The group’s Twitter account accused the 2016 Democratic presidential candidate of inspiring the attack that left nine dead at Emanuel African Methodist Church on Wednesday evening.
{mosads}“He did what lying preachers do: gave pulpit support to lying politician’s (@HillaryClinton) sin campaign,” the church said of Rev. Clementa Pinckney, Emanuel AMC’s pastor, who died in the incident.
“God sent the shooter,” the group tweeted. “This lying false prophet engaged in his LAST work of iniquity! #GodH8sHillaryClinton.”
“Lessons from #CharlestonShooting: Stay away from @HillaryClinton fundraisers,” read another Tweet. “Stop conducting lying Bible studies.”
Westboro Baptist Church, which is based in Topeka, Kan., has long sparked controversy for its anti-gay rhetoric and for protesting at the funerals of military service members.
Clinton on Thursday called for prayers and said the nation must face “hard truths about race, violence, guns and division.”
“We are with you and we will stand with you as we seek answers and take action,” she told the people of Charleston, while speaking at an event in Las Vegas.
