Jimmy Carter: Hillary not as ‘proven’ as Bill
Former President Jimmy Carter said Tuesday that 2016 Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton hasn’t yet “proven” to be as adept a politician as her husband.
“I think they’re both superb politicians,” Carter said during an interview on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” “I think Bill has a reputation of being maybe one of the best politicians whoever lived in his success, not only when he was in office but since then.”
{mosads}”And I don’t have any doubt that Hillary will have learned all, or had to begin with, the same abilities as a politician. But I think that still has to be proven,” Carter added.
The former Democratic president said last year that Clinton “took very little action” for peace as secretary of State, instead praising her successor John Kerry’s efforts.
Carter, 90, suggested Tuesday that he was withholding support from Clinton amid her nascent 2016 White House bid, noting unforeseen world circumstances can change the political landscape.
“I don’t think there’s much doubt that she’s going to get the Democratic nomination,” Carter said, acknowledging that her main opponent, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), was doing well in recent polls.
Carter said he looked forward to endorsing the eventual Democratic nominee, adding, “It still remains to be seen who’s going to prevail.”
