Obama takes a hike on Christmas Eve
President Obama is skipping the golf course on Christmas Eve in favor of a hike with his family.
The president is trekking on Oahu’s Judd Memorial Trail with his daughters, Malia and Sasha, and family friends whom the White House did not identify.
{mosads}The three-quarter mile loop “traverses through primarily bamboo, ironwood and eucalyptus forest,” according to the Hawaiian government’s trail guide.
Obama has spent plenty of time outdoors since arriving in his home state last Friday for his annual Christmas vacation. It’s the third hike the president has taken with family and friends. He’s also played three rounds of golf.
The commander-in-chief began his day with an early morning workout at Marine Corps Base, Hawaii, as he has done almost every day of vacation.
Following the hike, the Obamas and their friends hit the beach at Bellows Air Force Station. A sign said the public beach was closed, but an exception was apparently made for the first family.
There have been few public glimpses of the president during his two-week getaway. One came on Tuesday, when the Obamas were greeted by well-wishers during a hike on the Koko Head Crater Stairs.
