New ad touts Trump donation to NYPD during hunt for rapist
A pro-Donald Trump super-PAC has produced a new ad that says the New York billionaire helped fund a police effort to capture a serial rapist.
{mosads}The ad, produced by Great America PAC, features retired NYPD Detective John Baeza, who recounts the years-long hunt for the notorious “East Side Rapist” in the 1990s.
Baeza says the police department wanted to send fliers to every resident living in areas targeted by the rapist but was unable to cover the $10,000-$40,000 cost.
“Mr. Trump would willingly give between the $10- or $40,000 that we needed, and that happened just within a few days,” Baeza says in the ad.
“Donald Trump was definitely a leader who stepped up for the cops, the detectives and the women in the case. There is absolutely no doubt.”
Trump’s poll numbers among women have been on the decline, and he has dispatched his wife and daughter to help win over female voters on the campaign trail.
He is expected to easily win New York, with recent polls showing him with a majority of votes heading into the April 19 primary.
According to the New York Times, the ad was purchased through DirectTV and Dish and will air nationally.
