New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s approval rating in his state is just 26 percent, an all-time low, according to a new Rutgers-Eagleton Poll released Thursday.
The governor, who endorsed Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump in February, has an unfavorable rating of 64 percent, its highest point since Christie took office.

Among Republicans, Christie’s favorability is also dropping. About 56 percent of New Jersey Republicans have a favorable view of the governor, while 34 percent have an unfavorable opinion.
Among independents, 63 percent have an unfavorable view, and among Democrats, 87 percent view the governor unfavorably.
When respondents were asked why they rated the governor unfavorably, 15 percent said it’s because of his character, personality or attitude, and 15 percent said it’s because of the governor’s overall job and his governing style. Others said they disaproove because they see him as dishonest and ineffective, or because of his policy decisions.
People who view him positively attribute it to the overall job Christie is doing, his honesty and trustworthiness and his policy decisions.
Respondents were also negative about the state’s overall direction, according to the poll, with 31 percent saying New Jersey is headed in the right direction and 60 percent saying the state is on the wrong track.
The poll was conducted among 886 adults from April 1-8.
