Tucker Carlson’s 7 p.m. ET program on Fox News has a new title: “Tucker Carlson Tonight.”
Fox says “Tucker Carlson Tonight” will offer debate, reporting and “issues largely uncovered by the media.”
{mosads}The 47-year-old founder of news and opinion online website The Daily Caller was most recently a weekend co-host on “Fox & Friends.”
Carlson’s new program comes in the wake of the abrupt resignation of longtime host Greta Van Susteren in September, who hosted “On the Record” during the same time slot for 14 years.
Veteran anchor Brit Hume served as interim host of “On the Record” following Van Susteren’s exit. Under Hume, who hosted his last show on Monday, the program’s ratings increased by as much as 25 percent compared to the average under Van Susteren.
Carlson hosted several programs on competing channels before jumping to Fox in 2009, including “Crossfire” on CNN, “Tucker Carlson: Unfiltered” on PBS and “Tucker” on MSNBC.
The California native is best known during that stretch for an on-air confrontation with then-“Daily Show” host Jon Stewart, who challenged the debate format on CNN’s “Crossfire” while imploring Carlson and co-host Paul Begala to stop “hurting the country.”
“Tucker Carlson Tonight” premieres on Monday.
