Coburn: Trump’s tweets aren’t presidential

Former Oklahoma Sen. Tom Coburn (R) said President-elect Donald Trump’s tweets “aren’t presidential.”

Coburn was asked during an appearance on CNN Monday about the way Trump responded to Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.), who made headlines last week when he said he won’t be attending the inauguration because he doesn’t believe Trump is a “legitimate president.”

Trump took to Twitter to fire back at the civil rights leader. 

“Congressman John Lewis should spend more time on fixing and helping his district, which is in horrible shape and falling apart (not to mention crime infested) rather than falsely complaining about the election results. All talk, talk, talk – no action or results. Sad!” Trump wrote in a series of tweets.

{mosads}Coburn on Monday called Lewis’s remarks unfortunate, but said Trump’s tweets aren’t presidential.

“We’ve seen this pattern throughout his entire campaign to where he controls the talking points by using Twitter to counter someone’s assertion,” he said.

“I think it’s unfortunate that Congressman Lewis said that he’s not legitimate because there’s no basis in fact for that. The point is at some point in time the president is going to have to turn to become more presidential and that’s not presidential.”
