Mexico’s foreign minister blasted President Trump’s proposed wall on the southern U.S. border as a “hostile” act, saying that Mexico will not contribute to the wall in any way, Reuters reported on Tuesday.
Secretary of State Rex Tillerson previously met with Luis Videgaray, Mexico’s secretary of foreign affairs, but they reportedly did not discuss the wall, which Trump has promised will eventually be paid for by Mexico.
Trump’s promise to build a wall on the Mexican border has raised tensions with the southern neighbor. Current and former Mexican leaders have sharply condemned Trump for the proposal.
{mosads}Trump’s administration has signaled that it wants funding for the border wall in the upcoming spending bill to fund the government. Republican lawmakers say they want to see more about the actual plans, while Democrats have called funding for the wall a “nonstarter.”
Trump refused to say in an interview published Sunday whether he would sign a bill to fund the government that didn’t include funding for the border wall.
