Schumer: Trump isn’t a good negotiator
Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) on Friday panned President Trump’s first 100 days in office, saying the former businessman has not proven himself to be a good negotiator.
Asked in an interview with NBC’s Kasie Hunt whether he thinks Trump is a good negotiator, Schumer replied, “So far, not.”
“His forays into the Congress have been bad,” Schumer said. “His 100 days have been 100 days of broken promises to working people.”
{mosads}Schumer said there’s a large gap between Trump’s rhetoric on the campaign trail and what he’s delivered so far in office.
“He campaigned as a populist. ‘I’m going to be against the Democratic and Republican establishments,’ ” Schumer said. “He’s governing as a hard-right special interest guy.”
The top Democrat in the Senate hit Trump for his failed efforts to repeal ObamaCare, as well as attempts to put funding for his signature border wall in a government funding bill.
“His healthcare bill failed, because it was so far over to the right. His attempt to force us to take the wall nearly caused a government shutdown,” Schumer continued.
“You cannot govern from the hard right. And that’s what he’s doing. The things he has gotten involved in, thus far, he has just bollocksed up.”
