Conservative commentator mistakenly says Washington lived at Monticello

Conservative commentator Laura Ingraham on Wednesday mistakenly said George Washington lived at Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello estate.

“When will they storm Washington’s Monticello?” Ingraham wrote on Twitter in a since-deleted tweet, quoting a news report that said a New Orleans memorial to Confederate President Jefferson Davis will come down this week.

Monticello is the Virginia plantation that belonged to Jefferson, America’s third president. Washington’s estate, just outside of Washington, D.C., in Virginia, is Mount Vernon. 

{mosads}The Davis statue, located in New Orleans’ Mid-City neighborhood, was removed in the middle of the night Thursday, WDSU News reported.

Confederate statues and flags have come under renewed criticism since the 2015 mass shooting in Charleston, S.C., at a historic African-American church.

Following the 2015 shooting that killed nine people, South Carolina took down the Confederate flag from its statehouse grounds.
