Queen Elizabeth: Manchester attack ‘act of barbarity’

Queen Elizabeth II on Tuesday expressed condolences to the victims of the deadly terrorist attack in Manchester, England, calling it “an act of barbarity” and praising emergency responders working at the scene.

“I want to thank all the members of the emergency services, who have responded with such professionalism and care,” the queen said in a statement.

“And I would like to express my admiration for the way the people of Manchester have responded, with humanity and compassion, to this act of barbarity.” 

{mosads}At least 22 people died Monday night when an individual detonated an improvised explosive device at the conclusion of an Ariana Grande concert, police said.

The Islamic State in Iraq and Syria early Tuesday claimed responsibility for the attack.

Elizabeth said the entire country is “shocked by the death and injury” of the people “who had just been enjoying a concert.” 

“I know I speak for everyone in expressing my deepest sympathy to all who have been affected by this dreadful event and especially to the families and friends of those who have died or were injured,” she said.

President Trump spoke with British Prime Minister Theresa May early Tuesday. The two agreed that the incident was “wanton and depraved,” the White House said.
