GOP senator declines to say whether Trump is an ‘adult’
Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) won’t say whether he thinks President Trump acts like an adult.
Trump “comes out of a reality TV world. And I have lots of anxiety about whether or not that kind of world is really what we want for our kids,” Sasse said on a Politico podcast published Tuesday.
Sasse, who is promoting his new book, “The Vanishing American Adult,” didn’t answer when pressed on whether President Trump is an “adult.”
Asked for words to describe Trump, he responded: “Current president.”
{mosads}Sasse was among the handful of GOP senators to keep their distance from Trump during the presidential race. He never endorsed Trump and called for him to “step aside” after the release of the “Access Hollywood” tape in which Trump is heard making lewd remarks about women, including bragging about grabbing them without consent.
Sasse has maintained his criticism of Trump since the election. In April, he argued that Trump was a weak candidate and that Trump won “because of who his opponent was.”
“If Joe Biden would have run against Donald Trump, Biden would have won in a landslide,” Sasse said at the time.
