Australian columnist fights off attackers in dramatic video

An Australian conservative columnist on Tuesday fought off two men who tried to attack him from behind on the streets.

Andrew Bolt was assaulted in Melbourne on Tuesday, The Sydney Morning Herald reported. A video posted on social media shows two men approaching him from behind and hitting him in the head.

The men push Bolt into a pole, before he kicks them in the face and groin. Police told the Herald that Bolt was hit with a mixture of shaving cream and glitter in the attack.

{mosads}Police confirmed to the Herald that they were investigating the assault and are searching for the two men filmed attacking Bolt and another man with a camera who “appeared to be filming or taking photos.”

The incident happened at a launch party for a book by Steve Kates called “The Art of the Impossible,” which centers on President Trump and the 2016 election.

A Melbourne anti-fascist group took partial claim for the attack, posting on Facebook that “some of our family in solidarity were attacked by Andrew Bolt while they were protesting today,” according to the Herald.

Bolt told the Herald that his suit was ruined in the attack and he wants “every cent of that paid back,” plus a donation to a charity of his choice.

“We should be free to have a debate and to walk down the street without fear of being attacked,” Bolt said. “The right to free speech has to be better protected — everywhere but particularly in Melbourne. It is ridiculous how dangerous it is for conservatives in this town to speak out.”
