Time magazine gives tips on spotting fake covers like Trump’s
Time magazine wants readers to be able to identify fake covers like the one displayed at President Trump’s golf clubs.
The magazine published a “how to” on identifying fake Time covers Wednesday, one day after The Washington Post reported that fake issues of Time with Trump on the cover were hanging up in four of his properties.
D.W. Pine, Time’s creative director who has designed more than 400 covers, wrote that there were some key flaws in the design of Trump’s fake cover, including the logo being too large and placed too high inside the border.
{mosads}That misplacement “wouldn’t leave enough room for the three-line ‘rooflines’ referring to other stories in the magazine, which was also used during that period,” Pine wrote.
He also pointed out that the red border on the fake cover was too thin and the image of Trump was of lower quality than the magazine would have used.
“Also, in the case of the fake Trump cover, the head would have likely been silhouetted over the logo, creating what many people refer to as ‘devil horns,’ ” he wrote.
And the punctuation used on Trump’s fake cover was another tell-tale sign for Pine. He wrote that the magazine does like to use punctuation to emphasize certain points, “but exclamation points and question marks are another thing — particularly the four (!) in use on the fake Trump cover.”
Time requested that the Trump Organization remove the fake Trump covers from the properties after the Post report Tuesday.
