Huckabee blames ‘unfettered immigration’ for Barcelona attack
Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) blasted European immigration policies on Friday in the wake of a terrorist attack in Barcelona, Spain, saying that “unfettered immigration” in the region has “been a disaster.”
Speaking on “Fox and Friends,” the longtime President Trump supporter accused European countries of allowing immigrants in “without any vetting.”
“The tragedy that we see all over Europe is that the unfettered immigration policies, which have just allowed people to come in without any vetting, has resulted in disaster,” Huckabee said Friday.
{mosads}”We’ve seen it in France, in Belgium. We’ve seen it in the U.K. We’ve seen it in Germany. Now we see it in Spain,” Huckabee said.
“It’s been a great tragedy,” he added.
On Thursday, at least 14 people were killed in Barcelona when a van rammed into dozens of pedestrians in a popular tourist section of the city known as Las Ramblas.
Huckabee went on to praise Trump for his rhetoric in support of stricter vetting of immigrants and refugees. He also mentioned homegrown terrorism, specifically the recent attack in Charlottesville, Va., that left one anti-racist protester dead and dozens injured when a man with alleged racist ties plowed his car into a crowd that had gathered to protest the white supremacist rally that weekend.
“People have been so critical of President Trump because he wanted to have a vetting process in the United States,” Huckabee said. “We’ve got enough problems with homegrown terrorism, like we saw at Charlottesville.”
“We don’t need to import any more of it.”
Huckabee warned that European nations need to “wake up” and realize the dangers that Trump and others have warned refugees and unrestricted immigration pose.
“Europe’s got to wake up and realize that when you invite people in who do not share your values, who do not share your future and interests, you’ve just got to say, ‘You’re not coming.’ “
