Search for missing helicopter in Hawaii halted

The search for Army soldiers who went missing following a helicopter crash in Hawaii last week has been halted, The Associated Press reported Monday.

“Our five soldiers who represent the best and the brightest of America have not been found,” Maj. Gen. Christopher Cavoli said, as reported by the news outlet.

{mosads}Cavoli said the families have been notified that the search, which was conducted across 72,000 nautical miles, has ended.

The two helicopters were taking part in training practices when one went missing on Aug. 15.

A search crew found debris and pieces of the helicopter’s body, but did not see any signs of human life.

“We used all of our training and professionalism in this very dynamic environment to mount the best response possible,” Rear Adm. Vincent B. Atkins said, according to the AP.
