White nationalist from Vice documentary held without bond

Christopher Cantwell, the white nationalist featured in a Vice documentary about the Charlottesville, Va., “Unite the Right” rally earlier this month, on Thursday was “held without bond,” The New York Times reported.

He is charged with “one felony count of malicious bodily injury by means of a caustic substance” and “two felony counts of illegal use of tear gas,” the report said.

Cantwell reportedly turned himself in to Virginia’s Lynchburg Police Department on Wednesday after telling The times in an interview last week that he was prepared to turn himself in if he must. 

{mosads}The Albemarle County Commonwealth Attorney’s Office had issued four warrants for Cantwell’s arrest. Cantwell previously told the Times that he thought the warrants were related to an instance caught on camera where he is “pepper-spraying a guy straight in his face as he’s coming toward me.”

Following the release of the documentary, Cantwell was banned from the dating site OKCupid. He is featured in the Vice report making derogatory comments about blacks and Jews.

A preliminary hearing for Cantwell has been scheduled for Oct. 12, according to the Times.
