Scarborough: Trump brings ‘premature presidential fatigue’

MSNBC “Morning Joe” host Joe Scarborough wrote that the nation is experiencing “premature presidential fatigue” in a Washington Post opinion piece published Friday.

“Seven months into his maniacal presidency, Trump is driving his approval ratings to record lows and causing friends and foes alike to experience premature presidential fatigue,” he wrote, referencing President Trump’s anemic approval ratings.

By now, the president’s low poll numbers rarely raise an eyebrow,” Scarborough said, citing a new poll that found a majority of Americans believe Trump is “tearing the country apart.”

Trump’s administration has yet to pass any major legislation under the Republican-led government, causing frustration among the president’s voter base and deepening faction lines within the GOP.

Scarborough pointed to the president’s recent feud with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) after Congress failed to pass substantive health care reform, and other top Republicans who have distanced themselves from the president.

Scarborough, a former GOP congressman who has had several high-profile battles with the president, announced in July he was leaving the Republican Party.

“Like the focus group, my Republican friends are growing impatient with the man they once believed could change Washington and make America great again,” Scarborough said, referencing a focus group of Trump voters in Pittsburgh who are frustrated with the president’s personality traits and focus on the media.

“The president keeps bleeding support, Democrats remain rudderless, Washington is still gridlocked, and the problems that propelled Trump to the presidency are getting worse,” Scarborough wrote. “From Pittsburgh to Pensacola, many Trump voters would prefer a leader who stops attacking allies, stays off Twitter and lets Congress get something done before Democrats retake control.”
