School district apologizes after teacher tells students they can’t wear Trump shirts
A school district in Georgia on Sunday apologized after a teacher told students they were not allowed to wear shirts bearing President Trump’s campaign slogan.
According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, video emerged online of a math teacher at River Ridge High School telling two students they could not wear shirts that said “Make America Great Again.”
{mosads}“Her actions were wrong, as the ‘Make America Great Again’ shirts worn by the students are not a violation of our School District dress code,” Barbara Jacoby, a spokeswoman for Cherokee County School District, said in a statement reported by the newspaper.
The spokesperson said the district would not discuss disciplinary action against the teacher.
“Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower is deeply sorry that this incident happened in one of our schools,” Jacoby said.
“It does not reflect his expectation that all students be treated equally and respectfully by our employees.”
