Dem senator asks Trump for golf club visitor records

Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) is asking Trump Organization golf clubs to turn over their visitor logs, citing concerns that some may have unfair access to the president.

In a letter to the Department of Homeland Security, Wyden demanded transparency about the president’s “ties to business leaders, trade groups and foreign officials.”

“As a ranking member of the Senate Finance Committee, I believe transparency about the president’s ties to business leaders, trade groups and foreign officials are critical to successful trade policy,” the letter reads.

“These unprecedented levels of paid access to the president merit immediate scrutiny,” Wyden said, referencing a previous USA Today report on access to Trump via his golf clubs.{mosads}

Wyden goes on to demand the records by Oct. 13. The requested records include a log of visitors and guests, the identities of those who have golfed with Trump and foreign officials who have visited any Trump Organization resort while Trump was also present.

Trump has spent numerous weekends at his golf clubs since his inauguration. The president has used the visits for both private retreats and government business, including a key meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping early this year. 

The president’s family company, now run by his two eldest sons, includes a number of international golf clubs and resorts, and several international hotels. Trump’s hotel in Washington, D.C., has also raised concerns about potential conflicts of interest between his office and private business.
