Trump invites New York AG to UN reception: report

President Trump on Tuesday invited the New York official who led the investigation into Trump University to a guest reception during the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Politico reported.

Trump, who addressed the UNGA for the first time during its session in New York City on Tuesday, extended the invite to New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman despite the fact that Schneiderman is linked to various investigations tied to Trump, his family and entourage.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders said the invite was standard practice for the conference. A spokesman for Schneiderman, meanwhile, said the attorney general will not be attending, according to Politico.

Trump, who began his work in real estate in Manhattan, has frequently clashed with the attorney general over the years. Schneiderman led a fraud investigation into Trump University and has begun proceedings for investigating Trump’s charity and son Eric’s foundation.

Trump settled all claims against his university for a total of $25 million after being elected president in November 2016.

Schneiderman has repeatedly threatened to sue President Trump over matters including the decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and a bill repealing the ObamaCare

The attorney general’s office is also aiding special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort for possible money laundering, as part of the ongoing probe into Russian election interference in 2016.
