Ryan to survey hurricane damage in Florida, Texas

Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) is heading to Florida and Texas this week to survey damage from recent hurricanes, according to his press secretary.

Ryan will visit Jacksonville, Miami and the Florida keys on Wednesday, the Tampa Bay Times reported.

Hurricane Irma dealt extensive damage to the state’s southern coast, and caused a record 6.3 million people to evacuate ahead of the storm.

While in Florida, Ryan will meet with officials from the U.S. Coast Guard and the Federal Emergency Management Agency on the ongoing recovery efforts. He will be joined by Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), according to the Times.

The Speaker will also have a similar visit to Texas this week, amid the cleanup efforts from the extensive flooding brought by Hurricane Harvey in August.

President Trump traveled to storm-battered Florida last week, and he visited Texas twice following the hurricane that battered the state’s southeast coast and parts of Louisiana last month.

Trump signed a bill providing emergency federal funding for cleanup efforts in the wake of Harvey and issued a series of emergency declarations for various states ahead of the two storms.
