Japan’s first all-female police squad will protect Melania, Ivanka on Trump Asia trip
Japan’s first all-female police squad will have its debut assignment this week, protecting first lady Melania Trump and first daughter Ivanka Trump during President Trump’s trip to Asia.
Tokyo’s Metropolitan Police Department reportedly put the team together in anticipation of the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo in order to address gender-based crime, Newsweek reported. The unit has been training for its first assignment on the city’s streets, according to ABC News.

According to Japanese paper the Asahi Shimbun, the all-female team is composed mostly of riot police officers tasked with protecting Ivanka and Melania Trump from “female admirers” who might try to approach the first family with gifts or flowers.
Trump departs Friday for the 12-day trip, during which he will visit Japan, South Korea, China, Vietnam and the Philippines. He reportedly will not visit the Korean Demilitarized Zone.
More than 10,000 total police officers will be on call for the president’s visit to Japan, according to reports.
