Texas woman charged with mailing explosives to Obama, Texas gov.

A Texas woman was charged in a Texas district court this week on six counts, including transportation of explosives with the intent to kill and injure, after mailing explosives to politicians.

Julia Poff, 46, allegedly mailed explosive devices to former President Barack Obama, Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Social Security Commissioner Carolyn Calvin last October, according to court documents and reported by local CBS News affiliate KHOU

Abbott opened the package, according to the court filing, but the device did not explode because he opened it not as intended. If he had opened it correctly, according to the documents, he could have been severely burned or killed.

{mosads}Authorities were able to trace the devices to Poff using a salad dressing cap used to make one of the devices, and hair from her cats that were in the package.

According to the court documents, Poff had stated that she “did not like the President” and was “upset” with the governor, who was the Texas attorney general at the time, because she had not received support from her ex-husband.

Poff is also charged with false declaration of bankruptcy on two counts, and supplemental nutrition assistance program fraud.
