Scaramucci event at college postponed after lawsuit threats

Tufts University has delayed an event with former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci, who earlier this month threatened a lawsuit against one of the university’s graduate students and its newspaper.

According to The Boston Globe, Scaramucci threatened to sue after the student, Camilo Caballero, penned two editorials in which he said the former Trump aide should not be serving on the board for the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.

“A man who is irresponsible, inconsistent, an unethical opportunist and who exuded the highest degree of disreputability should not be on the Fletcher Board,” Caballero wrote in an editorial published by The Tufts Daily on Nov. 6.

“Scaramucci has, in his career and actions, demonstrated nothing that would align his values with those of the Fletcher School. His presence on the board instead places the credibility of Fletcher at risk,” the student added.

A letter dated last week from Scaramucci’s lawyer said he is prepared to take legal action should the newspaper fail to “retract the false statements and issue a public apology.”

“So either back it up or you will hear from my lawyer,” Scaramucci said in an email to the student earlier this month, according to the The Boston Globe.

“You may have a difference of opinion from me politically which I respect but you can’t make spurious claims about my reputation and integrity.”

A spokesperson for Tufts told The Globe that the university is “disappointed” Scaramucci has threatened legal action over the editorials.

Scaramucci is listed on the Fletcher School’s Board of Advisors on its website.
