Fox refuses to air anti-Trump ad featuring impersonator

Fox News has declined to give national airplay to an ad from a Democratic organization that targets the Republican tax-reform plan and features an impersonator of President Trump, an aide from the group said on Wednesday. 

The ad by the “Not One Penny” campaign, a coalition of progressive groups opposing the GOP legislation, showed the impersonator tweeting from a smartphone while at a golf course. The ad slams Trump for pushing a tax-cut plan they say benefits the wealthy.

“FOX News has a policy against taking ads featuring political impersonators,” a Fox News official told Politico.

“A president who tells it like it is. That’s what America needs. But when it’s time for Trump to explain why his tax plan gives a big cut to the wealthy, including lucrative breaks for golf course owners and cuts for rich heirs — all worth more than a billion dollars for Trump and his family — why is this president suddenly at a loss for words?” a voice-over in the ad says. 

The campaign said it paid more than six figures for the ad, which was meant to air nationally on Fox News and “Fox and Friends,” a morning show on the network that Trump watches and praises regularly. 

A “Not One Penny” aide said that while FOX News nationally will not air the spot, local affiliates in Washington, D.C., and New York have been running the ad since Tuesday. 

Trump is pressuring GOP senators to support the tax bill, which Republicans hope to get to his desk before the end of the year. The bill would mark a major legislative accomplishment for Trump’s presidency and the Republican-majority Congress.
