Ex-Morgan Stanley banker being considered for Treasury undersecretary: report

The Trump administration is considering nominating Justin Muzinich, a counselor to Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, to be undersecretary for domestic finance, Bloomberg reports.

Muzinich, a former Morgan Stanley banker who began serving as a counselor on Mnuchin’s team in March, would fill the position that has been left vacant since 2014, when Mary Miller left.

Others in the department have helped take on some of the domestic finance duties of the undersecretary during the absence, according to Bloomberg, including Craig Phillips, a counselor and former financial committee member of Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.

Muzinich, whose nomination to the finance post would have to be confirmed by the Senate, has been focused on the Trump administration’s tax plan, Bloomberg noted.

Republicans are looking in the coming weeks to iron out differences between the tax bill that passed the House last month and the one that passed the Senate late last week.

Mnuchin recently came under fire over a lack of an official analysis of the tax plan. Mnuchin had said an analysis would show that the GOP tax bill would pay for itself by spurring economic growth.
