GOP senator slams Pelosi as ‘almost unhinged’ on taxes

Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) suggested in an interview broadcast Sunday that House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) had become “unhinged” in her opposition to the Republican tax-reform bill.

“Nancy Pelosi has said the [the tax bill] is the end of the world and this is Armageddon,” Barrasso told host John Catsimatidis on AM 970 in New York.

“The statements are almost unhinged. People like Nancy Pelosi run for office so they can basically try to grow the government.”

Barrasso, who has argued that major tax cuts will spur economic growth and create jobs, said that the legislative conference for Republicans to work out differences between the House and Senate-passed versions of the tax bill is “pretty darn close” to approving final legislation.

The GOP senator’s criticism of Pelosi came after the longtime Democratic leader said this week that the tax overhaul was unequivocally the worst legislation that has ever been considered by Congress.

“For her it may sound like Armageddon, but for me it sounds like freedom,” Barrasso said. “Government can either create opportunity or crush opportunity.”
