President Trump bestowed the Purple Heart to a wounded Army lieutenant on Thursday during his visit with injured soldiers at Walter Reed National Medical Center.
The president gave the medal to 1st Lt. Victor Prato, 25, who was wounded in November during a deployment to Afghanistan when an IED blast caused his vehicle to roll over, inflicting multiple soft tissue injuries.
Prato remained in his hospital bed when Trump visited to present the historic honor, after a statement from presiding officers.

Trump visited service members of all military branches at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center near Washington, D.C., keeping with a longstanding tradition of presidents visiting wounded soldiers during the holidays. Trump called them “some of the bravest people anywhere in the world.”
