Paul Ryan sends video message to US troops
Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) sent out a holiday video message on Saturday thanking U.S. military members for their service.
“We are so lucky in this country to celebrate Christmas during a time of peace, and we all owe our men and women in uniform an enormous debt of gratitude for what they do to keep us safe,” Ryan said in the video.
Ryan’s message was posted two days before Christmas, after lawmakers in Congress have returned home for the winter recess.
The Speaker in the video read aloud letters from families addressed to U.S. soldiers thanking them and wishing them well during the holidays. Ryan said his office received an “overwhelming” response to an invitation to send letters.

“I want to send my own message of appreciation to all the men and women who put their lives on the line so we can enjoy the holidays with our loved ones,” Ryan said.
The Republican Congress left Washington, D.C., on a high note this week after passing the GOP tax-reform bill, the Republican-led Congress’s first major legislative win, just in time for the new year.
