Houston police: Intoxicated man found with weapons in downtown hotel room
Houston police on Sunday arrested a man at a downtown hotel who they said had guns and ammunition in his room, according to local media.
Police responded to a call around 1:30 a.m. at the Hyatt Regency in Houston, Texas, and began to arrest the man for being intoxicated and trespassing. When police went to his room to retrieve his belongings, they found ammunition, an AR-15, a shotgun and a handgun, police said.
Police initially planned to arrest the man for disorderly conduct. Hotel staff said he was drunk at the bar, and refused to leave. Officers and staff found the weapons and ammo when they went into his room to grab his belongings.

The hotel is scheduled to host a New Year’s Eve celebration with live music and a 50,000 balloon drop at midnight, according to its website.
Hotel-related mass shootings are part of the public consciousness since Stephen Paddock killed 58 people and injured hundreds of others when he opened fire earlier this year from his Las Vegas hotel room overlooking a country music festival.
