Lawmakers, political figures share their New Year’s resolutions for 2018
As lawmakers and other high profile figures in Washington prepare to turn the calendar from 2017 to 2018, many are taking to social media to share their resolutions for the New Year.
President Trump shared a video that recapped images of his first year in office.
“What a year it’s been, and we’re just getting started,” Trump tweeted Sunday.

He later wished a happy New Year to “all of my friends, supporters, enemies, haters, and even the very dishonest Fake News media”.
As our Country rapidly grows stronger and smarter, I want to wish all of my friends, supporters, enemies, haters, and even the very dishonest Fake News Media, a Happy and Healthy New Year. 2018 will be a great year for America!

President Trump’s daughter, Ivanka, tweeted earlier in the week that her New Year’s resolution is to “sleep more,” while sharing an article about the negative health effects of sleep deprivation. Her brother, Donald Trump Jr., also tweeted a happy new year wish, offering a “pre-apology” for the upcoming year.

Time for my annual pre-apology. I would like to pre-apologize for anything I say or do here that you don’t like. I’m not going to change anything per se just apologizing for your overreaction. #happynewyear

Lawmakers also took to Twitter, with Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) calling for human rights and equality worldwide, and Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) asking followers to “unite, resist, & reclaim” the country.
Rep. Al Green (D-Texas), who helped lead an effort to bring a vote on impeachment to the House floor earlier this month, said his resolution is to “defend democracy from bigotry emanating from the presidency.”

As 2017 ends, we see people asserting themselves around the globe, demanding human rights and equality. Hong Kong, Russia, Iran, Turkey, Venezuela, Honduras. Same energy in US—marches, citizen activism, strong electoral turnout. My wish for 2018: Resistance becomes Renewal!
