Trump’s approval rating 12 points higher among men: Gallup

The large gender gap in President Trump’s 2016 election win has carried over to the approval rating for his first year in office, a new poll shows. 

The gender difference in Trump’s approval rating is 12 percentage points, with 45 percent of men approving of his performance and 33 percent of women approving, according to the new Gallup poll.

While the overall support for past presidents waned throughout the course of their time in office, the gender gap remained fairly constant, according to Gallup.  

President George W. Bush, the last Republican president in office, had a 7 percent gender gap in support after his first year and a 6 percent gap overall after completing two terms. 

Trump won the White House with a larger gender gap than any president in history.

The new data comes after a year of historically low approval ratings for a sitting president. 

Trump had an average approval rating of 38.4 percent for 2017, which is within the top 10 lowest approval ratings for any president in Gallup’s polling history, dating back to 1945.
