Maine town fires manager for ‘pro-white’ views

Officials in Jackman, Maine, have fired their town manager after less than a year on the job following his comments about being “pro-white” and saying that Islam is “fundamentally incompatible with Western civilization.”

Tom Kawczynski moved to Jackman and became the town’s manager in June. Upon arrival to the town of nearly 900 people, he started the group “New Albion,” which is dedicated to “defending the people and culture of New England,” according to its website.

The Jackman Select Board voted unanimously to fire Kawczynski on Tuesday, saying that it was in the town’s “best interest.”

“[We] hope that in light of all the recent controversy we can all move on,” the town’s Chamber of Commerce wrote on Facebook. Kawczynski was given a $30,000 severance package, according to USA Today, and was paid an annual salary of $49,000 as town manager.

The Bangor Daily News on Monday published comments from Kawczynski, in which he suggests that the country would benefit from voluntary racial segregation.

{mosads}“While I am not an absolutist on race, understanding the many complications created by the American system, I do believe to the extent we voluntarily separate, the happier every group will be as they regain self-determination,” he wrote in a post on the New Albion website.

He told the Bangor Daily News that the group is “pro-white.”

“We are pro-white without being anti-other groups in terms of their racial identity,” he said. “But we … oppose the idea of bringing people in from the outside that come from different cultures. I would say unequivocally that I see Islam as fundamentally incompatible with Western civilization.”

In a post on New Albion after his firing, Kawczynski wrote that Jackman is a “great place that didn’t deserve to be degraded by the national press.”

“Given how the media paints me, there’s every incentive for me to evolve into the ghastly being they make me sound like, and there even is a market for that,” he wrote. “But, I’m going to try to do something harder and tread this path of pushing #WhiteCivilRights.”
