Comey: ‘This time there will be a tape’
Former FBI Director James Comey on Tuesday took a jab at President Trump, joking that “this time there will be a tape” as he recorded an audio version of his upcoming book.
“Lordy, this time there will be a tape,” Comey tweeted, along with a photo of himself in a recording booth.

After Trump implied he had recorded conversations with Comey in the Oval Office before firing him in 2017, the ex-FBI chief told a Senate committee he hoped that was true, saying “Lordy, I hope there are tapes.”

The Senate Intelligence Committee grilled Comey last year about a meeting in which he said Trump asked him to bury the FBI investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn.
Trump first mentioned the possibility of tapes after Comey said he felt uncomfortable in meetings with the president.
However, Trump said over the summer that he did not record the conversation, and that he made the story up to keep Comey honest.
“Well, uh, it wasn’t very stupid, I can tell you that,” Trump said of the strategy.
Trump fired Comey as FBI director in May, and has since then often criticized the ex-FBI chief for his leadership of the bureau.
Comey’s book, “A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadership,” is scheduled to be released April 17.
