MTV announces plan to send busloads of young people to anti-gun violence march

MTV said Friday that it would band together with several celebrities and the NAACP to send buses of young people to the March for Our Lives anti-gun violence rally in Washington, D.C.

The march, set to take place on Saturday, is expected to draw hundreds of thousands of students to D.C. and local marches nationwide to call for gun control and school safety measures in response to mass school shootings.

MTV announced the effort on Twitter, saying the network is teaming up with the NAACP and celebrities including Jennifer Lopez, Lady Gaga, Jimmy Fallon, Carmelo Anthony and Halsey to sponsor 17 busloads of youth from communities impacted by gun violence.

Student survivors of the February shooting at a Florida high school organized the march, which has drawn support from several high-profile celebrities, as well as lawmakers and other organizations.

George and Amal Clooney and Oprah Winfrey were some of the first major supporters of the march, each donating $500,000 to the cause.

Fallon is one of several celebrities to say they would join activists at the march. Winfrey, the Clooneys, Steven Spielberg, Ariana Grande, Jennifer Hudson and Miley Cyrus are all expected to be present.

Even singer Taylor Swift, who is typically silent on political issues, announced Friday that she had donated to the cause.
