Organizers estimated that the rally led by student survivors of the deadly Parkland, Fla., school shooting last month drew a crowd of nearly 800,000 people throughout the day, outpacing original estimates.
The aerial images show a sea of people packed onto Pennsylvania Avenue, the street leading from the Capitol to the White House, causing road closures throughout downtown D.C. along the National Mall.
Other cities across the country including Boston, Chicago, Houston and New York City saw crowds numbering in the tens of thousands marching in protest of gun violence and demanding action on gun laws.
The rally Saturday in D.C. hearkened back to rallies of comparable size in the city held in January 2017 and a year later for the Women’s March protesting President Trump’s policies.
