Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump came to their father’s defense after Jeb Bush joked Tuesday that unlike President Trump, he goes home to children “who actually love me.”
“Jeb! I love everything about my father. I love that he’s a fighter, I love that he has guts, I love that he’s President (all those things you’re not),” Trump Jr. tweeted Thursday.
“Also love that he learned enough about politics in a few weeks to dismantle you piece by piece despite it being your life’s work,” he added, likely a reference to 2016 when Bush faced Trump in the Republican primary.
Eric Trump echoed his brother’s sentiment, tweeting at Bush that “I actually love my father very much.”
Bush, who lost to Trump amid a crowded field in 2016, made the comments during a lecture titled “A Conversation with Jeb Bush: Restoring Conservatism in America.” The talk was sponsored by Yale’s The William F. Buckley Jr., Program.
He also joked that he is “still in therapy” from 2016.
Despite his swipes directed at Trump, Bush called for politicians to be more polite in their discourse, The Yale Daily News reported.
Bush’s comments come shortly after first lady Melania Trump’s spokeswoman called for the media to stop mentioning the Trumps’ youngest son in the news.
