California governor appoints state’s ‘deputy first dog’

California Gov. Jerry Brown (D) on Wednesday appointed a “deputy first dog” by adding another furry member to his family.

Brown announced the dog’s appointment along with two reappointments to the 35th District Agricultural Association.

{mosads}The dog, named Cali Brown, was born on Jan. 26 of this year in Sacramento, Calif. She is a bordoodle, which is a standard poodle-border collie mix.

“Cali has spent the past two months learning the ropes from a family of ranch dogs and has already shown promise in her engagement with horses, donkeys, goats, sheep and chickens,” the governor’s office said in the announcement. 

“As Deputy First Dog and the newest member of the Brown family, Cali will assist First Dog Colusa Brown in herding staff at the State Capitol and will lend a paw around the family ranch in Colusa County.”

Colusa “Lucy” Brown, who was born in 2015, is the state’s “first dog.”
