Former Arizona Governor Jan Brewer (R) said Saturday “it’s outrageous” that some states are refusing to comply with President Trump’s order to send National Guard troops to secure the southern border with Mexico.
“It’s unfortunate they’re just sitting on their hands and doing nothing. They’re not taking the issue seriously,” Brewer told host Neil Cavuto on Fox News. “It’s outrageous that they’re doing what they’re doing.”
States including Montana and Nevada, each led by GOP governors, refused to send troops to aid the president’s efforts, calling the move a “whim” and inappropriate use, respectively, even as Trump is working to halt the steadily increasing rate of illegal crossings.

Arizona quickly agreed to Trump’s directive, as Gov. Doug Ducey (R) announced Friday that the state would deploy 150 troops to the U.S.-Mexico border. Texas will also deploy another 250 troops along with military equipment and aircraft to clamp down on security.
Defense Secretary James Mattis signed Trump’s memorandum on Friday that allowed the National Guard to deploy up to 4,000 National Guard members to the southern border, which came after Trump said he would station troops there until a full border wall is completed.
Brewer said she was “excited and encouraged” by Trump following through on his key campaign promise for tougher border security.
