Hillary Clinton to fundraise in DC for public charter high school

Hillary Clinton is expected to speak at a fundraiser next month marking the 20th anniversary of a group of public charter schools in Washington, D.C.

The Washington Post reported that Clinton will headline the event to benefit the Maya Angelou Schools on May 23 at Union Market.

The gathering will raise money to expand job training, residential facilities and social service resources at the group of public charter schools, which cater to disadvantaged students. {mosads}

The Clintons have been longtime supporters of the schools and have attended past fundraisers.

“We thought it was a great opportunity and great time to have her come back and talk about what else D.C. and other cities can do to support youth who are off track,” Heather Wathington, chief executive of the Maya Angelou Schools and its foundation, told The Washington Post.

Tickets for the event cost $150, and sponsorships cost between $150 and $50,000, the newspaper reported. The event will feature performances from students enrolled at the school.

Lawyers David Domenici and James Forman Jr. founded the school, which was named after Angelou by the students. The poet later developed a relationship with those on campus.
