Woman accepts diploma on behalf of daughter killed in Waffle House shooting
The mother of one of the Waffle House shooting victims on Sunday accepted her daughter’s college diploma.
Shirl Baker, whose daughter DeEbony Groves was killed in the shooting last month at a Tennessee Waffle House, was met with a standing ovation as she crossed the stage at Belmont University’s commencement ceremony.
{mosads}Groves, 21, was studying social work at the university. The school’s alumni association has since set up a scholarship in her name.
Groves was one of four people killed when a gunman opened fire at the Nashville-area restaurant. The suspected gunman, 29-year-old Travis Reinking, has been charged on multiple counts, including criminal homicide.
Groves’s brother, DiAngelo Groves, also graduated on Sunday.
