Chris Christie on Monday denied that he’s been asked to help President Trump prepare for an interview with special counsel Robert Mueller.

“The WaPo story tonight saying I have been asked to help prepare @realDonaldTrump for any interview with Bob Mueller is dead wrong,” Christie tweeted.

Christie was responding to a Washington Post story published Monday night in which Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani said he’d like to bring the former New Jersey governor in to help Trump prepare for a possible interview.

The Post reported Trump’s legal team is preparing for the possibility of the president sitting down for an interview with Mueller despite Trump’s claim that the special counsel is “unconstitutional” and Giuliani’s pledge to fight a subpoena in court.

Giuliani said Sunday that Trump’s legal team is “leaning toward” not agreeing to an interview” with Mueller.

Christie did not respond to a request for comment from The Post.

Christie was among the first high-profile Republicans to endorse Trump in the 2016 presidential campaign after he ended his own bid. He was initially pegged to lead the Trump transition team, but was replaced by Vice President Pence shortly after the election.

Christie, a former prosecutor, left the New Jersey governor’s mansion in January. He works as a contributor for ABC News.
