Alice Marie Johnson released from prison, thanks Trump for commuting sentence

Alice Marie Johnson, who was granted clemency earlier Wednesday, expressed appreciation toward President Trump for commuting her prison sentence and Kim Kardashian West for advocating for her case.

“I want to say to President Trump, I am going to make you proud that you gave me this second chance in life. And I will not disappoint the American public or the world who had so much faith in me,” Johnson said in an interview with CNN.

“All I can say is thank you President Trump, and I love you President Trump,” she added.

Trump granted Johnson clemency on Wednesday. She was later released from an Alabama prison after serving 21 years of her life sentence for a nonviolent drug offense and money laundering charges, CNN reported.

Johnson, 63, had her case brought to Trump’s attention after Kardashian West visited the White House last week to speak with the president.

Johnson praised Kardashian West on Wednesday night for being a “warrior” and “relentless” in advocating for her release.

Trump has pardoned five people thus far, and is considering dozens more clemency cases, White House sources said on Wednesday.
