GOP lawmaker’s brother on endorsing opponent: My brother is ‘getting more and more extreme’

One of Rep. Paul Gosar’s (R-Ariz.) brothers said Monday that the congressman “appears to be getting more and more extreme” and explained that he and five of Gosar’s other siblings felt they needed to speak out in an ad for his Democratic opponent.

“If you watch him and how he conducts himself, he appears to be in a very hostile manner all the time, he talks down to people, he says bizarre things,” David Gosar said on CNN’s “New Day.”

Gosar and five of the congressman’s other eight siblings appeared in an ad released over the weekend promoting Democrat David Brill and criticizing their brother.

{mosads}Gosar, who noted that none of the siblings in the ad live in Arizona but that not all are registered Democrats, said frustration in the family had been building over the congressman’s votes over the years.

“He was taking actions and casting votes that were, you know, impacted our lives in regards to health care,” he said. “Some members of the family, his votes against healthcare would have ended up with them losing their health care or being unable to afford it.”

“He took other votes and other actions that impacted values and interests that affected their children as well,” Gosar added.

Gosar said that the siblings “kept our peace out of deference to his family and our parents,” but cited a Vice News interview last year with the congressman as a breaking point. In the interview, Paul Gosar promoted a conspiracy theory that Democratic donor George Soros was behind the 2017 white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Va., where one counterprotester was killed.

“That’s just a right and wrong matter, and at that point in time we felt we had to speak out,” David Gosar said.

The ad, featuring six of the 10 Gosar siblings, quickly went viral over the weekend.

The congressman fired back, accusing them of being “liberal Democrats who hate President Trump.”

“These disgruntled Hillary suppporters [sic] are related by blood to me but like leftists everywhere, they put political ideology before family. Stalin would be proud,” Paul Gosar tweeted.

“You can’t pick your family. We all have crazy aunts and relatives etc and my family is no different. I hope they find peace in their hearts and let go all the hate,” Gosar added. “To the six angry Democrat Gosars—see you at Mom and Dad’s house!”
