Americans satisfied with state of affairs in just 5 of 22 policy areas: Gallup

A majority of the Americans surveyed said they are satisfied with the state of affairs in five of 22 policy areas laid out in a Gallup poll published Monday.

The survey found that more than half of respondents were at least somewhat satisfied with the country’s military strength, its security from terrorism, the economy, the position of women in the country and the acceptance of the LGBTQ community. About half were satisfied with the quality of medical care in the country, the poll found.

{mosads}But less than half were satisfied with the state of various issues, including gun laws, immigration levels, race relations and the U.S.’s role in world affairs. The poll found that 20 percent of respondents are happy with the nation’s campaign finance laws, the lowest mark for any single policy issue in the survey.

Satisfaction with the quality of the environment hit an all-time low, with 43 percent of respondents signaling they are pleased with the country’s handling of the issue. That figure is down from 45 percent a year ago, and from 52 percent in 2017.

The poll found partisan divides, with Republicans more satisfied than Democrats on most policy issues.

Gallup surveyed 1,017 people from Jan. 2-10. The poll has a margin of error of 4 percentage points.
