Ocasio-Cortez compares climate scientists to viral clip of Ohio weatherman
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) compared a meteorologist who went viral Monday for his response to viewers who were angry that coverage of “The Bachelorette” was preempted by tornado coverage to climate scientists attempting to warn of the fallout from climate change.
“This guy reminds me of every climate scientist warning people we have 12 years left to cut emissions in half before our future is irreversibly damaged & all the GOP wants to do is yell about communist cow farts,” Ocasio-Cortez, who has supported environmental initiatives such as the Green New Deal in Congress, wrote Wednesday.

{mosads}In the now viral clip, Jamie Simpson of Dayton-area affiliate Fox 45 lambasted viewers who demanded a special report on tornadoes in the state return to the reality show. “Viewers are complaining already, ‘Just go back to the show.’ No. We’re not going back to the show, folks. This is a dangerous situation, OK?” Simpson said in the live broadcast.
In addition to the Green New Deal, Ocasio-Cortez has repeatedly spoken out against what she perceives as complacency about environmental threats, criticizing former Vice President Joe Biden’s call for a “middle ground” climate plan.
“This is a dealbreaker. There is no ‘middle ground’ w/ climate denial & delay,” she tweeted earlier this month.
