Authorities thwart Brazilian gang leader’s attempt to escape prison disguised as teen daughter

A Brazilian gang leader was reportedly caught trying to escape prison dressed as his teenage daughter, in a disguise complete with a wig and silicone mask.

The prisoner, Clauvino da Silva, 42, was caught by guards who said they noticed his nervousness as he tried to escape the Bangu prison complex in Rio de Janeiro dressed as a teenage girl, The New York Times reports

In a video released by Rio de Janeiro’s Penitentiary Administration Secretariat, tweeted by O Dia, da Silva is seen removing the disguise to reveal his identity.

Da Silva’s failed disguise included jeans, flip-flops, a pink T-shirt with a donut, long black wig, glasses and a silicone mask. He reportedly planned to walk out of the prison, where is serving a 73-year sentence for drug trafficking, and leave behind his 19-year-old daughter.

The New York Times reports da Silva attempted another failed prison break in 2013 along with 31 other prisoners who tried to flee Vicente Piragibe Penal Institute through the sewer system.
