Melania Trump says Donald Trump knew her stance on abortion rights ‘since the day we met’

Former first lady Melania Trump said in an interview broadcast over the weekend that her husband, former President Trump, knew her stance on abortion rights “since the day we met.”

In her forthcoming memoir, Melania Trump describes being a passionate supporter of a woman’s right to control her own body, a stark difference from the 2024 Republican presidential nominee’s views on the issue of abortion.

“He knew my position and my beliefs since the day we met, and I believe in individual freedom,” Melania Trump said during a sit-down interview that aired on Fox News’s “Sunday Morning Futures.” “I want to decide what I want to do with my body. I think, I don’t want government in my personal business.”

The former first lady’s memoir, titled “Melania,” is set to come out Tuesday, exactly four weeks before Election Day.

In the book, she writes it’s “imperative to guarantee” that women have autonomy over their preference on having children. She took to social media to share a similar message.

She argued on Fox News that these views are not new and not intended to make a splash as voters head to the polls since they were “written months before.”

“So that was my belief, and it is my belief, and I wanted to put it in the book because I wanted to be authentic,” Melania Trump said.

When asked by host Maria Bartiromo how her husband has handled the issue, Melania Trump largely avoided the question.

Last week, the former president said he would veto a federal abortion ban if it came across his desk in the White House. He’s often touted putting conservative justices on the Supreme Court who overturned Roe v. Wade and ended the constitutional right to abortion.

“He knew my beliefs, as I said, so we knew it will be in the book,” Melania Trump said. “He let me be who I am, and he let me believe what I believe. He let me be my own person, and he respects that, and I respect that, as I let him be his own person.”
